FN=μFN

Our robot for the Lunacy game of the 2008-2009 robotics season is named FF=μFN, pronounced "Fmewfin" or "Mewfin". FF=μFN is a 4-wheeled robot designed to drive around the playing field, scooping up the balls which are scattered around, shooting them in to the trailors of the opposing team. μFN has a vertical rack for storing the balls, and a CIM controlling a pair of wheels to fire the balls.

A key design for traversing the slick field of Lunacy is a traction control system. Two free-rotating wheels between each pair of main wheels record the actual speed on the field at which the robot is moving. The program will then limit the speed of the drive motors to a small fraction faster than the robot is moving, creating a gradual increase in speed, rather that the motors running at full speed at all times. Driver feedback has said that it is much easier to maneuver with this system.
